When summer hits, Grächen transforms into an outdoor sports paradise: You can really celebrate the fair weather on extensive hiking trails. To recharge your batteries, we recommend stopping for refreshments at one of the numerous huts in Grächen and the surrounding area.
For hikes lasting several days, you can also book an overnight stay in one of the traditional accommodation options. During the day, you will explore nature – and at night, you can admire the beautiful starry sky. In short: You’re in for pure hiking bliss!
Eringer cows up close on Alpe Äbnet
In Grächen, between residential buildings and Hannigalp, you will find Alpe Äbnet, which you can reach via numerous hiking trails. Once there, you can marvel at interesting rituals relating to the breeding of Eringer cows all throughout summer.
Our tip: Alpe Äbnet is the perfect picnic spot on long hikes!
Glacier hike to Bordierhütte
Crampons strapped to your hiking boots, you will head out on your adventure on the alpine route to Bordierhütte. This hike across the Ried Glacier is truly thrilling and requires a certain level of fitness. After crossing the glacier, you can get a good night’s sleep at Bordierhütte before heading back down to the valley. Refresh yourself at the glacier water fountain, charge your devices with solar power and then fall asleep in one of 44 beds at Bordierhütte.

Scenic views at Topalihütte
While out and about on impressive hikes in the Valais, there is no way around the Topalihütte. A fantastic view of the Weisshorn, Brunegg and the Barrhörner summits is waiting for you here – either from the magnificent panorama window in the guest room or from the spacious panorama sundeck. Delicious food and drinks are served on site as well: The varied menu includes traditional and regional dishes, wholesome vegetarian food and cakes.
Spend the night at Europahütte
As the starting and finishing point of your circular hike from Randa or as a stopover on the spectacular two-day hike on the Europaweg trail: Europahütte, surrounded by beautiful mountain scenery, is the ideal place for a good night’s rest. Located not far from the impressive suspension bridge, the rustic wooden hut offers 42 beds and warm cuisine throughout.
Gourmet excursion to the Jungeralp mountain restaurant
Not far from Grächen, on the idyllic Jungen Alp, you will find a mountain restaurant with a particularly special ambience. After a ride on the rustic Jungenbahn cable car, you can enjoy a breathtaking view of Grächen, Ried Glacier and the Mattertal valley from the scenic viewpoint on Jungen Alp. And afterwards, you get to feast on homemade regional delicacies.
