At the scenic viewpoint, you can relax while admiring the mountain scenery, and the location is also the starting point of many impressive hikes.
A view of the mountains and valleys
From St. Niklaus, take the Jungenbahn cable car to Jungen Alp – and prepare to be amazed. An extraordinary atmosphere awaits you:
- Beautiful scenic views: You’ll hike with an amazing view of the Weisshorn, Bishorn and Brunegghorn and also enjoy a view of Grächen and the Mattertal valley. The Ried glacier shows you its best side here as well.
- Buildings with Valaisian charm: Picturesquely situated larch log cabins with massive stone slab roofs adorn the landscape.
- Idyllic mountain lake: A special highlight near the Jungen Alp viewpoint is the crystal-clear lake amid fragrant mountain meadows, on whose shores barbecue areas invite you to sit down and relax.
- Fascinating wildlife: Ibexes, goats, black-nosed sheep, cows and marmots watch you pass by on the meadows and pastures as you hike.
Culinary delights with a view
Grächen St. Niklaus offers traditional and international cuisine. The Jungeralp mountain restaurant attracts families and outdoor enthusiasts alike with its spacious, cosy sundeck. The homemade delicacies taste twice as good with a magnificent view of the mountain scenery!
From Jungen Alp to the Topali hut
For those who want to challenge themselves on a demanding hiking route, the tour to the Topali hut is a must. Equipped with appropriate hiking gear, the route takes you up to 2674 metres above sea level.
Important: This route requires good physical fitness! Once you reach the top, you will be rewarded with culinary delights and a fantastic view.
Alpine Flower Trail
From the Jungen Alp viewpoint, you can explore a magnificent mountain world surrounded by four-thousand-metre peaks. On this route, you’ll discover the colourful diversity of the local Alpine flora. As you hike along the lovingly laid-out paths, you will learn about the floral splendour of the Grächen mountains from 80 information boards.
From Jungen to Moosalp
For a particularly impressive mountain panorama, set off in the direction of Moosalp. You’ll be able to enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountain scenery for 3.5 hours. The route with a gentle gradient takes you all the way to Moosalp, where you can admire enchanting larch forests and picturesque trails. In the Moosalp restaurant, you can round off a successful day of hiking by enjoying a variety of delicacies. For a shorter route, hike in the direction of Moosalp and take the adventurous cable car from Schalb to Kalpetran.
