There is an ideal photo stop at the glacier gate before continuing below the glacier tongue towards the Bordierhütte at 2,800 metres above sea level. Here you should recharge your batteries and lace up your hiking boots the next morning as the sun rises. You will feel the thinning air and the increasing physical challenge. POI details

For your summit hike, your first stage takes you to the Bordierhütte at 2,800 metres above sea level. You hike through the refreshing larch forest, trudge "through" the glacier gate and steadily uphill over lush alpine meadows. The paths, which become narrower and rockier, lead you downhill below the glacier tongue in the last third of your day tour. Follow the white-blue markings on the other side of the valley uphill to the Bordierhütte. This is a popular starting point for summit hikes to the Balfringruppe, the Nadelgrat and the Gross Bigerhorn. After recharging your batteries overnight and starting the new day with a fragrant hot drink, you head for the summit of the Gross Bigerhorn at 3625 metres above sea level. The air becomes thinner and the effort noticeably increases. This alpine hike requires surefootedness and you should be free from giddiness. In addition to very good hiking equipment, you should also have enough to drink in your rucksack. Once you reach the Felsberg between the Balfrin and Ried glaciers, you will be fully rewarded by the impressive panoramic view.
