545) Grächen Loop: Village – Z'Seew– Bärgji – Bina – Village
Information
If you are not in a hurry, you can stop at the Bärgji-Alp restaurant and enjoy the spectacular view of the surrounding peaks from the Matterhorn to the Bietschhorn on the terrace. Or just under a kilometer further, at the Hohtschuggen viewpoint, let your gaze wander down over Stalden and Visp to the Rhone valley.
This technically and physically not too demanding circular route is very well suited to get to know the trails around Grächen. This route includes everything that characterizes the region: wide gentle forest paths, challenging climbs, root-strewn downhills, and narrow singletrails.
At the Titter junction, before the last approx. 100 meters of elevation back to the village, there is the possibility to extend the route towards Kalpetran and further to St. Niklaus. This worthwhile additional variant can be expected to take about 1.5 hours. You will find 600 meters of descent on finest singletrail to Kalpetran and for the return to St. Niklaus, on a well-rideable path (hiking trail no. 41), there are about 300 meters of ascent to add.
The Grächen Loop is only signposted in one direction: Grächen -> Z’Seew -> Taa -> Bärgji -> Chummulti -> Bina -> Grächen

POI details
The family loop starts in the village center, past the valley station Hannigalp and further on the fields road. After the moderate ascent of about 150 meters of elevation on the paved and gravel road, the highest point of the route is already reached in the refreshing larch forest. The first short descent and the following counter-ascent then require a bit more concentration. Then it goes on the wide field path past the Grächen lake, ascending to the junction “Alpe Äbnet” and from here on a wide trail towards the Kneipp facility at Taa and finally past Bärgji. Following the gravel road, the trail leads you through a sharp left curve rolling along a remote, narrow singletrail with fun descents and short counter-ascents back to Grächen.
Regular train connection from all over Switzerland to St. Niklaus and then by post bus to Grächen
Our recommendation: technically flawless bike, helmet, gloves, and bell, weather-appropriate clothing (always bring rain protection), drink and food
