For Vanessa and Anthony, known on social media under the couple's account ‘crastulo_’, the spontaneous trip to Grächen was the perfect break. They were able to spend time together in nature, discover a few new places and indulge in the region's incredible cuisine – including their first fondue on the Hannigalp.

The beautiful Jungen Alp

Our little adventure began with a trip to the Junge Alp. The gondola ride from St. Niklaus at a dizzying height was really worth it! Once at the top, the view was simply breathtaking. The view stretched far into the valley and over the surrounding peaks. What we particularly liked was the small, crystal-clear mountain lake nestled between the meadows. It was a great place to relax. Of course, we had to refuel after the hike. So we had a portion of traditional rösti at the mountain hut. And it was topped with lots of delicious cheese, just as it should be in Valais. An absolute treat for the taste buds!

The Questioning Trail

The name alone piques your curiosity! And indeed, everywhere along the way you encounter large question marks with QR codes. Behind them lie funny and exciting puzzles about Grächen. For example: How many hours a year is the Hannigalpbahn actually in operation? Or how many steps does an Hérens cow take on average in the Alps? While you're figuring out the answers, you also get to enjoy fantastic views. Afterwards, we treated ourselves to a relaxing break in the family mountain restaurant next to the Hannigalpbahn, with coffee and a slice of cake.

Grächen: Love at first sight

When the autumn sun warms your skin and the clear mountain air fills your lungs, there's no better place to unwind than Grächen. We were immediately enchanted by the village itself. The small, winding streets, charming wooden houses and wonderful tranquillity make it something truly special. You quickly notice how friendly the people are here. Whether in the hotel, in the small shops or in the restaurants. We also learned that instead of ‘Grüezi’, people here prefer to say ‘Salü’.

We particularly remember our dinner at the Walliserkanne. The schnitzel was not only perfectly prepared, but so delicious that we still rave about it today. We can therefore absolutely recommend this place.

Fondue dream: our absolute highlight

But the absolute highlight was an evening in one of the bubble suites on Hannigalp. In this premium suite at Hannighüsli, we tried a real, classic cheese fondue for the very first time, and we couldn't have chosen a more beautiful setting for it!

While enjoying the view of the mountains outside, we stirred our cheese, which we later dipped our bread into. The view from the suite into the endless expanse of the Alps was a moment we will not soon forget. At night, you have an incomparable view of the starry sky here. You should definitely see it for yourself!

What shall we say about Grächen now?

What makes Grächen so incomparable for us is this perfect blend of wonderful nature experiences and tranquillity. Hiking during the day, soaking up the sun and indulging in culinary delights in the evening. Here, all of this goes hand in hand. And for those who are still looking for relaxation after all that exercise, many hotels also offer wellness facilities that round off your stay perfectly. Whether it's a sauna, steam bath or a swim, Grächen was the ideal place for us to relax as a couple for a few days and discover lots of new things at the same time.
