Mattertal - valleys & musts

Distance 36.82 km
Duration 3:15 Hours
Difficulty medium

Information

The first kilometers from Visp rise only slightly and serve to warm up the leg muscles before the real ascent starts relatively suddenly shortly before Stalden. Then you turn right towards Zermatt and leave the valley that leads to Saas-Fee on your left. In the following kilometers, you pass through the villages of the Mattertal: Stock, Bifig, Breitmatten and Täsch. In the quiet last kilometers between Täsch and Zermatt, you can admire the extraordinary nature around you. The ultimate reward for your efforts? A fantastic view of the famous Matterhorn upon your arrival in Zermatt.

POI details

From Visp, you can first warm up a little along the Vispa. You initially follow the road that leads to the well-known ski resorts Zermatt and Saas-Fee, before turning right into the Mattertal valley just after the village of Stalden. The ascent then proceeds in stages up to Täsch, which lies in the heart of a narrow, pristine valley. Gradually, the holiday resort of Zermatt appears between the mountains. As a reward for your effort, the world-famous village finally reveals a view of the mythical Matterhorn – perhaps the most photographed mountain in the world!
Regular train connections from all over Switzerland via Lötschberg Base Tunnel (SBB) or Simplon line to Visp.
Cantonal Road 9 takes you to Visp coming from Brig or Sierre.
Our recommendation: Technically flawless bicycle, helmet, gloves and bell, clothing suitable for the weather (always with you: rain protection), drink and food.
