Along the way, there are several fantastic spots to enjoy the breathtaking views. On the Alpja, there is a beautiful picnic spot overlooking the glacier.

POI details

Your mountain route starts in Gasenried and initially leads you along the paved village road past the chapel until you follow the hiking trail uphill to the left. The path winds in curves through the larch forest up to the glacier gate. You cross the rushing glacier water over a small bridge. You hike over rocky paths and lush meadows where black-nosed sheep graze, living in harmonious coexistence with the wild animals of the region. The lush meadows gradually give way to rocky terrain. Steadily sure-footed, you continue uphill before the path initially descends steeply and narrowly below the Ried glacier border to cross the rocky glacier field. For the final ascent, you then follow the path steeply uphill to the Bordier hut at 2,800 m above sea level.

From Visp, take the train to St. Niklaus. There, change to the PostAuto, which takes you to Gasenried.
